The Effects Of Noise Pollution

Noise pollution has become a major problem in today’s world. Noise pollution is defined as when there is an excessive amount of noise that causes a temporary disruption in the natural balance. There are different kinds of noise pollution, including man-made pollution and environmental noise, which occur because of various environmental activities.

1.   Hearing problems

One of the severe effects of noise pollution is hearing problems. Basically, any unwanted sound that the ears cannot filter can cause problems within the body. The ears can take in a certain range of sounds without getting damaged.

Man-made noise brought by things, such as airplanes, machinery, and jackhammers, can be too loud for our hearing range. Constant exposure to noise pollution can result in damage to the eardrums and even loss of hearing, causing deafness or tinnitus. It also reduces sensitivity to sounds that the ears pick up instinctively to regulate the body’s rhythm.

2.   Sleeping disorders

Excessively high levels of noise can affect your sleeping pattern, therefore leading to irritation and uncomfortable situations. If you don’t get an adequate amount of sleep, you may experience multiple problems related to fatigue.

When this happens, it can affect your performance at work and even at home. This is why it is recommended to sleep adequately to give your body the adequate rest it deserves.  In some instances, you can reduce the noise, especially if it is noises from TV or other gadgets. You can do so by making lifestyle changes.

3.   Psychological issues

Excessive noise pollution in offices, bars, or construction sites can affect our psychological health. Research shows that aggressive behavior, disturbance of sleep, fatigue, constant stress, and depression can be linked to excessive noise levels.

With an increase in noise, the irritation level also increases, in the end, this can cause severe and chronic health issues later in life.

4.   Physical problems

Too much noise not only cause psychological issues, but also physical problems. That’s because it can cause headaches, respiratory agitation, high blood pressure, racing pulse, etc. And in extremely loud noise, a heart attack may occur.

5.   Cardiovascular issues

Over recent times, we have seen an increase in cardiovascular diseases, high blood pressure levels, and even stress-related heart problems. Studies show that high-intensity noise can cause high blood pressure and increase heartbeat rate since it disrupts the normal blood flow.

6.   Trouble with communication

High decibel noise can significantly affect communication between people. This may make it quite difficult to understand the other person, leading to misunderstanding. Constant exposure to high decibel noise [over 85 decibels] can lead to severe headaches and even disturb one’s emotional balance. So, if possible, try to avoid very noisy places.
